What is the W.O. Lawton Business Leadership Award?
In March of 2007, long-standing member of the NAWB Board of Directors and the Hampton Roads WIB W.O. Lawton died unexpectedly. Dr. Lawton worked constantly to focus his WIB and NAWB on developing the skilled workers required by employers and programs that offered residents the opportunity for self-sufficiency and career growth. NAWB named its Business Leadership Award after Dr. Lawton to honor his commitment to improving the local and national workforce delivery system.
Who can submit a nomination?
Workforce Investment Boards that are current NAWB members are eligible to submit nominations.
What are the nominations guidelines?
Businesses and business organizations that have made a substantial contribution to the success of your WIB in meeting community needs should reflect some or all of these attributes:
- Has consistently supported WIB activities for at least two years as of November 1, 2012.
- Has demonstrated commitment by investing resources, time, and leadership into the community.
- Has made investments that have transformed WIB services to some degree. That is, the investment has significantly expanded business services, partnerships, training capacity, funding, market share, etc.
- Has made investments that have resulted in new or expanded services that are currently operating and have achieved significant concrete impacts (e.g., training, placements, new models, new and broader partnerships).

Award nominations are no longer being accepted. The deadline was Monday January 7, 2013.
