Program Information
Wednesday, July 10, 2013, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Pre-conference Session
Our preconference session, included as an optional activity as part of your conference registration, will focus on new Board member orientation; which will include a thorough introduction to WIA – the history, the law, and implementation – and, also, a look at new legislation and how the conversations in Washington will impact the next iteration of the Workforce Investment Act and the public workforce system.
Thursday, July 11, 2013, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM: Summit Kick-Off
Boards are the nexus point of business, education and the workforce. The challenges are daunting. The day will revolve around the role of the WIBs; the issues, the policy considerations and will allow time for discussion so all of us can learn.
NAWB and GLETA will deliver insight on Boards of Excellence and will help attendees focus on how best to improve their effectiveness in Strategic Management, Data Analytics, Communications/Outreach/Advocacy, and Strategic Convening. System excellence to regional transformation: find your core strength and let’s move forward together.
Friday, July 12, 2013, 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM: Workshops and Closing Session
The focus is on workshops and issues on-the-ground. Preliminary topics include; a session on monitoring and finances, updates from Washington, a working session for WIB directors, and a working session for WIB Chairs and Board members.
