In early 2011, NAWB created a national workforce campaign called Workforce Investment Works—a storytelling website to help America understand the value of the workforce investment system. The site provides a powerful communication medium to collect success stories, innovations and customer quotes. The site houses the following functions:
- Campaign videos – 25 two-minute vignettes that show how the workforce system supports business and industry
- RSS feed for blog
- Social media tools to engage supporters
- YouTube video channel
- Twitter account
- Back-end story submissions that feed into public facing site
- Click-on map features to find workforce stories and experts by state
- Intranet with capacity building tools for workforce professionals
- Forms for registration
- Back-end report generation for stories and information by state
The results to date have been outstanding with over 1,400 success story submissions and an average of 4,300 visits per month.
The second phase of the campaign will launch real-time labor market information, trends and analysis, and a new section called WIW Corporate Champions—companies that understand the critical issues, and demonstrate a keen interest, in workforce development. Corporate Champions will sponsor an industry-specific section of the WIW website to showcase the companies’ workforce projects or initiatives, and promote the types of positions and skills necessary to acquire careers within the company.
