New Board Members will help shape the organization’s priorities for the next year
APR. 8, 2021--WASHINGTON, DC—Today the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) announced their new Board of Directors, including new Board Chairwoman Jennifer Harris of Lake County, Illinois.
“Our Board of Directors are dedicated volunteers deeply committed to workforce development at the local and national level and will work diligently to ensure workforce strategies are meeting the needs of local business and industry,” says Ron Painter, CEO of NAWB. “We could not be excited to see what our new Board members will accomplish over the next year.”
In addition to Board Chairwoman Harris, NAWB added to Board leadership including Vice-Chairwoman Lisanne McNew of Pikes Peak, Colorado; Treasurer Kathy Jewett of Wichita, Kansas; and, Secretary Antwanye Ford of Washington, D.C.
Board members elected and/or re-elected to a three-year term: Mark Guthrie of Texas, Attorney & Shareholder at Winstead PC; Lee Lambert of Arizona, Chancellor at Pima Community College; Charlie Mahoney of Michigan, President at Four-M Associates; Shonna Dorsey of Nebraska, Information Services Manager on the Talent Strategy team, Mutual at Omaha Insurance Company; Marlena Sessions of California, Executive Director at San Bernardino Workforce Development Board; and, Lisa Schumacher of Illinois, Director, Education Strategies at McDonald’s Corporation.
Individuals selected by Chairwoman Jennifer Harris to serve a one-year special appointment: Jaime Cruz of Nevada, Workforce Connection; Jeff Frederick of North Carolina, Research Triangle Institute; Debra Giordano of Kentucky, Equus Workforce Solutions; Jon Gustafson of Texas, Lockheed Martin; George Nee of Rhode Island, Rhode Island AFL-CIO/RI; and, Walter Simmons of Maryland, President & CEO, Employ Prince George’s, Inc.
"Over the last year and under challenging circumstances, workforce development boards across the country maintained their focus to assist job seekers acquire additional skills necessary for new employment opportunities as well as serve the business community in finding skilled talent,” says Jen Harris, Chairwoman of NAWB’s Board of Directors. “As the conversation at the local, state and federal level focuses on moving the economy forward, I am excited to work with the NAWB staff and its Board of Directors to represent workforce development boards focusing on the skills needed to succeed in a new economy, providing increased access to training and online learning, as well as setting a clear strategy for the organization that will support the next generation of workforce development with a focus on diversity and inclusion.”
